Obituary of Audrey May (Zeiner) Greig

Please share a memory of Audrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

In loving memory of our mother, Audrey Greig, who passed away peacefully at the age of 96, on December 7, 2020 in Fort Langley, BC.

Audrey (nee Towne) was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 16, 1924, the youngest of seven children, born to Olive LaPrairie and James Henry Towne.  She was predeceased by her siblings Harriet, Claire, Reginald, Jay, Donald and Maurice.

Mother to Brian (Sheila) and Lynne (Brian), Audrey raised her children with care and devotion in various Royal Canadian Armed Forces (RCAF) related cities in Ontario, Alberta, 3 (F) Wing, Zweibrucken, West Germany, Vancouver Island, BC and Manitoba with her beloved husband of 54 years, James Robert Zeiner, who retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1976, and settled in Chilliwack, BC.  Robert 'Bob' passed away on September 30, 1999.  Member of Military Merit (MMM) 1974.

Audrey lived a full and rich life surrounded by her loving family and her cherished friends. Remaining to honour and forever remember her are her six grandchildren, Aimee (Craig), Julia (Andy), Caitlin (Spencer), David (Ashley), Michael (Shantell), Bradley (Shalaine), thirteen great-grandchildren and extended family in Canada and the United States.

Over the years Audrey embraced the many RCAF moves and would say to her children, 'Home is where you hang your hat.'  Every community Audrey lived in she willingly joined and volunteered her time, energy and talents with various Roman Catholic parishes and community groups.  She served on the Chilliwack Academy of Music Board as Corresponding Secretary, Member of Parish Council (Public Relations) President of Catholic Women's League, (Member since 1950) Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood, President and other executive positions, Seniors Outreach, visiting shut ins, Volunteer Teacher Aide, member of Chilliwack Gyrettes to name a few. She especially enjoyed her position as school secretary at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Chilliwack, BC.

All throughout Audrey's life she loved entertaining and planning all manner of parties and social events for her family, grandchildren and friends in her home. She made everyone feel special with her generosity and hospitality.  Audrey also had wonderful culinary talents, especially in the dessert category. Her butter tarts were always a hit! Her personal favourite sweet was Laura Secord chocolate, in fact all chocolate!

In 2001, Audrey married Ian Greig (deceased October 27, 2016) and continued to live in Chilliwack for the next ten years.  In 2011 Audrey moved to Langley, BC to be closer to family and lived in assisted living for four years prior to moving to long term care in 2015.

Audrey's family would like to express their gratefulness for the loving and compassionate care that she received by the staff of Fort Langley Seniors Community long term care home over the last five years.

Due to the current health restrictions, there will be a private family memorial service later in 2021 when it is safe to do so. Thank you to everyone who offered their support, care and expressed their condolences.

Inurnment will take place at Chilliwack Cemeteries, 10010 Hillcrest Drive, Chilliwack BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society of BC, or the charity of one's choice, in Audrey's name are appreciated.
