Rene Valmayor Quiaoit

April 19, 1949- November 22, 2020

Rene Valmayor Quiaoit passed away suddenly on November 22, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Gloria “Dolly” Quiaoit and his children, Rene Anthony (Christina) and Maria Cielo (Michael Fonseca) and four adoring grandchildren, Jacob, Maya, Hayley and Rene Oliver. He leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his grandchildren, which he considered his greatest investment.

Rene was born April 19, 1949 in Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte, Philippines to Dr. Andres T. Quiaoit and Dr. Rosita V. Quiaoit. He was the third of four sons and will be greatly missed by his brothers, Fernando (Norita), Edgardo, and Wilfredo (Glenda). He grew up in San Juan, Metro Manila. He joined the Philippine Army in 1971 as a second Lieutenant and rose through the ranks as a Major until he moved to Canada with his wife and children in 1988.

In his short 71 years here on earth, Rene, affectionately known as Papa, lived a loving and fulfilling life with his family. He was a faithful man and often started his day reading scripture. Rene was reliable, loyal, patient and was always ready to lend a hand. He was a great provider and a hard-working man. He was a jack of all trades and mastered what he put his mind to. When he was at home, he was often puttering about fixing things. He was very resourceful in that he was always thinking and making improvements after doing research.  While he was a quiet man, he was genuine and sincere in all he did. When he was with his circle of friends, he often could be seen as the life of the party. He and his wife enjoyed hosting get-togethers and he was proud of his signature dishes.

Rene worked with his wife and son as a realtor for over two decades. He was admired and loved by his clients who quickly turned into friends. His sense of humour put others at ease and he was quick to share a joke to make others laugh. He was “Kuya Rene” or “Tito Rene” to many who will miss him. He was an all-round cool dude.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the viewing and funeral mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish will be private but available on livestream Monday, Nov 30 6:00-8:00 PM (PST) and Tuesday, Dec. 1 10:00-11:00 AM (PST). Video link will be available afterwards for viewing indefinitely on the website.
