Obituary of Christopher Roger Bate

Please share a memory of Christopher to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dr. Christopher Roger Bate, DVM

Born in Barnstable, England December 17, 1936 where he spent his childhood years along with his two siblings. Kate and Mark. He married Ann Hulbert in Rhodesia, Africa in June 1965 where they shared many adventures. After graduating from veterinary school in Saskatoon, they ultimately moved to beautiful Agassiz, BC in 1976 where Roger opened his first veterinary practice followed by a second in Hope, BC both of which kept him busy until well into his 70’s.  Roger is survived by his lovely wife Ann and his two children Philippa (Jay) and Miles (Christine) and his two grandchildren, Gavin and Autumn. Roger had a great love and understanding of animals. He loved his career as a veterinarian where he throughly enjoyed interacting with the farmers whose he regarded more as friends than clients. His passion for horses was unprecedented, particularly the sports of 3 day eventing and fox hunting. The Boxing Day hunts (drag hunts) were memorable events held on their property in Agassiz. For the past two years Ann and Roger lived in Fort Langley where Roger was very involved with the St. George's Anglican Church and was seen socializing with anyone and everyone on the Fraser River walk way paths in Fort Langley with Ann’s pug Harry.  A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 22nd, 2pm at St. George's Anglican Church in Fort Langley.
