Obituary of Cyril Meadows

Please share a memory of Cyril to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On Wednesday, August 12th, 2020 Cyril Albert Gladstone Meadows passed away peacefully with family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Camille; his daughters Gale (Tony), Kelly, Teri (Bob), Christine (Bernie) and Kate (Mark) as well as his grandchildren, Melissa, David, Derek, Cole, Patrick, Mackenzie, Austen, Ben and Reilly. Also, by his brother Garry (Darlene), sister-in-law Michele, cherished extended family members and many very dear friends. Cyril was born July 16, 1934 in Ethelbert, Manitoba, one of 5 children to Sidney and Etta. He was raised in Surrey, BC where he eventually returned to raise his own family. A Renaissance Man, he was a hard worker and skilled craftsman and though he excelled at many professional endeavours, he always had a carpentry project on the go. Whether it be renos or fix-it projects for friends and family, displays and restorations at the BC Museum of Flight where he volunteered, new home builds along with his brother Gary or the 3 homes he built for his family, he always had a hammer in his hand. It was like an extension of him so anyone who messed with or misplaced his tools faced a wrath not worth repeating! Cyril embraced a work hard/play hard mindset and he spent many years immersed in his hobbies of model railroading, radio-controlled boats and radio-controlled planes among others. Through these interests, he fostered many lifelong friendships which he cherished deeply. He adored his wife Camille and they enjoyed creating and tending to their beautiful garden and home together which would always serve as the foundation for family gatherings and many memories made. They also enjoyed many trips together to Mexico and Cuba. Cyril was a very proud Dad and Grandpa and he enjoyed telling stories to share the knowledge and wisdom that he’d acquired by living an exceptionally full and passionate life. We were always amazed at how much he knew. Some of it may not have been ‘verified’ but he always sounded so compelling that we’d never think to question anything he said! He cherished every chance he had to play cards, watch a movie, go for a meal or catch a Canucks hockey or BC Lions football game with his kids or grandkids over the years. His cheeky smile, sense of humour, big bear hugs, invaluable advice, ability to fix anything, unwavering support and unconditional love will be missed but never forgotten. Don’t worry Dad, if anyone asks where you are, we’ll tell them you’ve gone flying. There will be no formal service but a small family gathering will be held at a future date to honour his request.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting Arbutus Funeral Service Should family and friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to: Canuck Place Children’s Hospice or the Canadian Museum of Flight, both of which Cyril was a long-time supporter.
