Being friends with a Hatch kid meant you were friends with the entire family! I will always have fond memories of pulling up to The Hatchs’ and seeing Fred in the garage. When Fred found out I got my first summer job on a golf course, there was no way I was going to bypass a conversation with Fred and just pick-up Laura to head out. When I changed my major in school to Horticulture, well we had lots of chats in the garage and in the yard about the cedar hedge (that was always masterfully pruned level and straight) and the Gunnera! I was always welcomed at the Hatchs’ and feel blessed that my paths crossed with Laura and became life long friends with the ENTIRE family! We will dearly miss you Fred and send all our love.
Our Condolences,
Denise, Brad, Meghan & Grace

We will always remember that twinkle in Fred's eyes before he commented into a discussion around Happy Hour. He was eloquent and full of laughter. Condolences to Joan, Eleanor and the family.

My sincere condolences,
I will be eternally grateful of having met S/Sgt Hatch. It is because of him that I had the career that I am so proud of. Fred took the time to meet with me despite the fact that he had never heard of me and had no position available at VIP.
He taught me the importance of always making time for others and having an open door policy.
As I went up the ranks, I applied HIS principle and was fortunate to discover talented employees otherwise hidden. I briefly worked for Fred, one year and a half, but the impact he had as a human being and supervisor still lives on.
Thank you Fred for believing, blessed your soul,
MC

My sincere condolences to Fred's family and friends. It is shocking to learn of a colleague's passing from this dreadful disease. I met Fred during my posting to DIFO in Vancouver. He was most definitely a quality person and a very capable and dedicated member of the Force who was respected by everyone he worked with, regardless of rank or position...
