Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Matthew, Peter Robert (Bob) April 27, 1927 – February 10, 2020 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Matthew, husband of over 67 years to Lois Matthew. Also left to mourn his passing are his four children, Vicki (Robin) Matthew, Debbie (David) Couling, Liz (Gary) Tokariuk, and Jim (Gail) Matthew. Grandchildren Jay (Laura) Couling, Jesslynn (Shane) Breitkreitz; Rebecca, Matthew, Benjamin and Stephen Tokariuk; great-grandchildren Finley, Marlowe, Brynn and Lachlan Couling. He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Shirley Matthew, brother Gordon (Ann) Matthew, sister Gay (John) McLeod and sister Lee (Al) Strandquist. Bob was born in Nipawin and grew up in the White Fox/Torch River area of Saskatchewan and attended the U of S where he graduated with a degree in Mining Engineering and where he met his future wife Lois. Because of his career choice they moved many times, eventually settling for a while in southern BC. Bob joined the Granby Mining Co where he rose through the ranks from Geologist at the Phoenix mine near Grand Forks until they moved with their young family to Vancouver where he would become the President of the company. After retirement from Granby, Bob worked for a time for the Mining Association of BC as Managing Director. He finished his career at 72 after working for a number of years as a consultant for various mining operations. Summers were spent at the family cabin at Christina Lake where Bob loved to make improvements to the property but he also spent a lot of time showing his waterskiing skills and teaching others to enjoy the sport. He was also an excellent snow skier and helped to establish the ski hill at Phoenix. The family moved to an acreage in Langley, BC in 1972, where Bob indulged his passion for gardening. He loved to grow berries and vegetables which were abundant and delicious. Bob and Lois travelled many places often with their golf clubs in tow; he was a humble but talented duffer. Bob will be remembered as a gentleman with a great sense of humour and always a twinkle in his eye. Per his wishes there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers please make a donation either to the SPCA or charity of your choice.
