Obituary of Esther Karwandy

Esther Karwandy was born on February 5th 1928 in Winnipeg’s North End. She died on July 13, 2019 at Westminster House in White Rock BC. Esther was married to her beloved husband Brigadier General (retired) Frank Karwandy from 1954 until his death in September 2016. Esther attended the University of Manitoba as an undergraduate and the University of BC for her post graduate nursing degree which is where she and Frank met. Esther and Frank lived in Edmonton, Halifax, Fredericton, Winnipeg, and Ottawa, as well as Soest, Germany. They also travelled the world, with many wonderful holidays in Hawaii. Esther and Frank settled in White Rock upon Frank’s retirement. Esther was one of the sweetest, kindest people. She never forgot a birthday and her “Snoopy” cards were always a highlight of valentine’s day and other holidays. She loved her reunions with her Nursing School friends and was an amazing correspondent. Until a few years ago, Esther was always knitting and crocheting and she remained a rabid Blue Jays baseball fan until the end. Esther was predeceased by her parents, Fanny and Misha Ludwig, her brothers Bobby and Jack Ludwig, brothers-in-law John, Walter and Nicholas Karwandy, sisters-in-law Leya Ludwig, Ethel Ludwig and Margaret Karwandy, and nieces Leone Karwandy-Hagel and Joanie Ludwig. “Auntie” Esther leaves her siblings-in-law Florence, Rose (Bill), William, Kathy (Archie), her brothers’ children Allan, Danielle, Brina and Emmy , Frank’s many nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews from both the Ludwig and Karwandy families. The family wishes to thank Westminster House, Marlize and Kaila Besteman and Danielle McLaughlin for their special loving and attentive care of Esther.
