Remembering Aunty Mishu.
My Mother Lina and Aunty Mylthie were great friends. Whenever Aunty Mishu (as I called her) stopped by the air was filled with chirpy cheerfulness. She and Mom would plan their day which could be a foray to Kowloon City to shop for exotic ingredients or perhaps a visit to the Chinese fortune teller located on the outskirts of the Forbidden City. Sometimes I was invited to tag along. Along the way there would surely be a stop at their favorite “hole in the wall”. Those two were always up to something.
They shared a mutual passion for gardening. I know my Mom gave her plants names and spoke soothingly to them while administering water and nutrients. I’m sure Aunty Mishu did likewise green thumb that she was. My Dad had a special place in his heart for his sister “Fei Mui”. He used to address her affectionately as “Fei Nui”. Despite the “Fei” part, Aunty Mishu was a gifted athlete, a World Class Badminton Player.
As a teenager I used to watch Aunty Mishu and the then World Champion Wong Peng Soon from Malaysia play exhibition matches against the best international competition could muster. They won every time. Aunty Mishu was an agile competitor and a graceful ballerina patrolling the net area. Blessed with uncommon quickness, she unleashed her deadly arsenal of delicate drop shots and cobra like strikes that smashed the shuttlecock to the ground. Her wristwork was exhilaratingly awesome.
Her favorite mixed doubles partner was Uncle Meme. They won the Club de Recreio Championship several times giving my Dad, who was President, the frequent pleasure of calling them up to the podium while my Mom presented the trophies. These were proud family moments.
Uncle Meme and Aunty Mylthie were an affectionate couple. A pair of love birds you might say. When they were around, you could “feel the love”. Aunty Mishu taught me a lot of things for example, never bother anyone unnecessarily; learn to be self-sufficient. Also how to prepare and make dishes like Coffee Jello, Capela, Madras Curry and many other delicious wonders. Every time I steep shiitake mushrooms to soften them I will remember her saying, “to make them taste better add a little oyster sauce to the water”.
I am sure my Mom, Dad, Avo Luisa and Uncle Meme are busy rolling out the welcome mat for her. As for me, I was glad she was a part of my life. I will carry forward fond memories of Aunty Mishu with warm aloha.
Rest in peace dear Aunt. You will be missed. Forever, and until we meet again, you will always hold a special place in my heart.
Leo, Renaldo, Michael and Sean join me in offering our sincere condolences to Trish, Annette, Ian, John, Kristin and Scott.

Auntie Mylthie will live on in our hearts and our memories. She was kind. She was unflappable. She always looked on the brighter side of any situation. Every visit with her was a joyous occasion. Thank you Annette and Babs for taking care of her these many years.

My aunt Mylthie filled a hole that was left by my mother's early death. She was Mom's younger sister, became my daughter's honorary grandmother. She shared wonderful stories about her growing up years in Hong Kong and kept my mother's memory and stories alive for me . I cherish the times I got to spend with her in Vancouver, and thanks especially my cousin Annette and Babs for taking care of her, for welcoming all of us into their house and for making it possible to be a part of her life all these years. I will miss her a lot ,but know she is joining those she loved who went before.

What an amazing woman she was. What an extraordinary life she led. She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and she lived her life with the grace and elegance of a bygone era. We miss her and those qualities in today's world.

For fifty three years Auntie Mylthie and I have been greeting each other on Festive times with the incorrect greeting. This started at Avo's Beach House one Easter when I stayed the weekend and when family members arrived for Mass I actually received presents mostly Easter Eggs. After the second gift U. Memie and A. Mylthie approached the entrance and I ran up shouting Merry Christmas. A tradition I will keep up with Annette.
Remember her smile and her cheerfulness, we will plant two Eremurus in our garden (foxtail lily) for this summer to keep her in our hearts.

Mylthie brought such a spirit of joy, love, and playfulness to the world. As an honorary grandma of mine I send her love for a peaceful transition.
