I was very sad to hear about Garry’s passing. He was a wonderful, generous man who helped so many people during his life. I was one of those people and I shall always have fond memories of him.
I first met Garry in 1986 when I began working at SkyTrain as Manager of Human Resources. I was a little green when it came to the labour relations side of my job. Garry immediately sensed this, but rather than taking advantage of my inexperience, he very tactfully acted as an unofficial mentor. Garry set a strong, moral example in helping me along. I enjoyed working with Garry over those years and never forgot Garry’s example when I found myself in in a similar situation with others.
