Cremation is becoming a more accepted way of dealing with the mortal remains of a loved one. However, not everyone is aware of what is involved in the cremation process. There are many misunderstandings about it and some myths as well. Here are some facts that will help you understand what cremation involves:

  • When a person's body is cremated, it becomes an eco-friendly option compared to burial. You do not need a large plot of land since there is no casket to bury.
  • Unless you are going to be keeping the body for a more extended period to organize a funeral service later, this process isn't required either.
  • You would only need to purchase an urn to store the ashes.
  • You can also bury the urn in a cemetery or keep it in a columbarium in a cemetery.
  • Some people keep the urn on the mantelpiece in their home or may bury it in their backyard.
  • Alternatively, you have the option to scatter the ashes in any location that you like.
  • Cremation is far more cost-effective than a burial since you do not have to purchase an elaborate casket or even a space at a cemetery.
  • You can also conduct a memorial service by keeping the urn at the funeral home or any other location of your choice.
  • People are becoming increasingly mobile and choosing to live in different parts of the country or world. It can be challenging for family members that live overseas to visit a cemetery when they feel like paying their respects to the deceased family member. Cremation becomes a good option in case they want to carry the remains of their loved one with them.
