If you have a friend that is grieving, it can be tough for you to see them go through this agony. Many people are not too sure about how they can console someone who is grieving, and they end up making mistakes or faux pas. If you find yourself in this type of situation, here are five tips to help a friend through the grieving process:

  1. It is imperative to keep in view that every person grieves differently, and there is no set rule on how a person should express their grief. So if you see that your friend has become very silent or reserved, it is essential that you respect their feelings and give them the space need during this difficult time.
  2. If the person wants to talk, make sure that you are there to listen to what they have to say. Many people find that they can deal with their sorrow a little better when they talk about their feelings of grief with someone they know very well.
  3. Do not hurry them in any way and let them take their time to discuss what they are feeling. If you try to push them into talking, they can become even more withdrawn and distant.
  4. Make sure you let them know that you are there to lend them a shoulder whenever they need it. This is one of the best ways to show your support in their time of grief.
  5. It's also necessary that you be aware of warning signs of depression and symptoms such as lack of sleep, and aversion to food and drink. These kinds of problems can escalate very quickly and take a toll on your friend's health .
