Celebration of Life Vs. Funerals

Conventionally, funeral ceremonies have been very predictable events, with very typical prayers, eulogies, hymns etc. While the objective of the funeral service is to provide some solace to the family members and friends attending the event, in most instances this purpose isn’t served.

Today, families and close friends seek funeral ceremonies that more meaningful; one of the best ways to do that is to have a celebration of life. This is a very creative and comforting way to remember the decedent; it is a reflection of the life of that person.

The Differences

  • There are a number of ways in which a celebration of life differs from a funeral such as:
  • The events that occur and the process of the event
  • Atmosphere and mood at the event
  • The location where this event is held
  • Whether or not the decedent’s body is present

Characteristics of a Celebration of Life

  • A celebration of life doesn’t wear the cloak of formality that a standard funeral has.
  • It can be conducted at any point of time- a few days course to the debt, a week a month or even several years after.
  • It is really a religious event and the family members won’t follow any traditional service.
  • A celebrant guides the event and this person would be a family member or friend, rather than a regular religious leader.
  • The focus of a celebration of life is on remembrance, honoring the decedent, story-telling and sharing fond memories of the person that has passed.

In simple words, when you decide to host a celebration of life, it can be conducted in exactly the way you want without worrying about whether something is right or wrong.
