Most people set goals for themselves at some point in their lives. It helps them have some purpose and encourages them on to achieve something. In fact, goal setting is a very important aspect of developing a sense of fulfilment and well-being. When a loved one passes away, it causes a significant amount of heartache and grief and most people find it very difficult to come to terms with this grief. We at Arbutus Funeral Service feel that even at a time like this, goal setting can aid the grieving process. Take a look at how it helps:

  • Set attainable goals - When you are grieving the demise of a loved one, facing each day and going through the motions can seem like a Herculean task. But when you set small and attainable goals for yourself it gives you the impetus to do the things you need to, without getting fazed.

  • How you benefit from goal setting- Goal setting gives you a greater sense of achievement. It’s never easy for people to deal with grief. However, settings goals give you something concrete to work on and you will find that you are able to heal better and at a faster pace.

  • Learn how to write goals- Goals aren’t something you write at random.  Writing them down helps you channel your grief. And if you find yourself faltering, you can always look at what you have jotted down and set yourself back on track.

When you are coming to terms with the death of a loved one, it’s very difficult to focus on positive thoughts. Goal setting is one way of challenging the negativity and moving forth with a more positive outlook.
