There are several terms in the funeral industry that most people are not aware of, until they have to plan the funeral of a loved one or pre-plan their own funeral. One of these terms if a funeral celebrant. Find out what this means below:

A funeral celebrant is defined as an individual that works with the family to ensure that the ceremony is befitting to the loved one. They may utilize traditional religious elements in crafting this funeral, or they may rely upon the wishes of the family. This may sound very similar to the role of a funeral director because they do have similar roles. However, the key difference is that a funeral celebrant is often officiating the funeral, and they officiate other services such as weddings, retirements, and the like.

Why Do People Work with a Funeral Celebrant?

So, why do people choose to work with a funeral celebrant? They may want a different view on the funeral than a funeral director can offer. A director is often very conformed to how the funeral should be, whereas a funeral celebrant is going to think outside of the box. For those who want their funeral to be something that is different and a celebration of the unique life, then a celebrant may be a better option.

Keep in mind when planning a funeral that the celebrant may have some great ideas that they can offer to make the funeral something that is more personal. However, a director can also have some of these same ideas, especially if they are someone that knew the deceased loved one.
