The Importance of Saying Goodbye

Why do we often have some type of funeral service for a loved one that has passed? This gives everyone a chance to say goodbye. While the person may not be able to talk back, a funeral is meant to give everyone some type of closure as they are able to say goodbye. This is a practice that has been around for thousands of years, and it has always been used as a way to lift up the person who has died, talking about the good they have done and their character, while allowing everyone else to start the grieving process.

Saying Goodbye

Did you know that a huge part of the grieving process is coming to the realization that this person has moved on? The funeral allows this feeling to settle in. Thus, the grieving process can start. How long this process will take is up to the individual. There are some people who grieve and move on within a few months, others take years. It really depends upon the relationship that you had with the loved one.

So, why is it important to say goodbye? While you may have not gotten to say goodbye to a person before they passed, this is your time to say goodbye to them in your own way. At a funeral, you can take the time you need to say goodbye and to let them go in your own way. This is also a time that others can come and say their goodbyes, showing you, just how many people thought the best of the passed loved one. This can be a crucial way to help with healing.

Here at Arbutus Funeral Services, we want to make this final goodbye one that helps you ease into a life without that loved one. We work with you to make it everything that you want this to be in the memory of the lost loved one.
