Irrevocable Pre-Need Arrangements

A pre-need arrangement or funeral services package is essentially a pre-paid agreement between an individual and a funeral home like us at Arbutus Funeral Service. It contains details of all the funeral arrangements for the person after their death. Any person can get one no matter what their fitness level or age is. It is an excellent way to ensure that your funeral service is conducted as per your wishes.

What is Included in a Pre-Need Arrangement?

We have seen many people showing an interest in this service, and here is some information to help you understand it better:

Instead of paying in advance for the funeral home's services, the amount is held in escrow until you pass. The funeral home then delivers the services as outlined in the contract. The interest earned on the amount in escrow is used to cover the increase in funeral costs over time. This contract will have several relevant details, such as:

  • Burial/cremation
  • The final resting location
  • Funeral/memorial service
  • Cremation Urn or Casket
  • Instructions for a customized cremation or funeral
  • Type of marker/headstone

Pre­need arrangements can be irrevocable or revocable, but you are assured that the funds would cover the necessary expenses even with the former. The main benefit of this type of contract is that Medicaid does not affect the funds, as it is not calculated as an asset when determining Medicaid eligibility, which becomes a distinct advantage.
