The Importance Of A Cemetery To Our Community

Human beings have been building cemeteries for centuries and most of these places have been an important part of their community. Cemeteries many have a spooky reputation due to their portrayal in media, but they are usually places of peace, quiet, and serenity. At Arbutus Funeral Service, we believe that every community can benefit from a cemetery. Here’s a look at some reasons why they are so important:

Offering Comfort and Solace to Loved Ones

When a person passes away, there are few physical reminders left behind. You can hang on to some of their personal possessions or visit their grave. Visiting a grave almost feels like visiting a loved one’s home. It is easier to remember your memories of them and feel their presence. Some people even share stories about their everyday lives or accomplishments. To them, it seems like they’re sharing their life with a loved one even after they have passed away.

Such an interaction is very comforting and gives solace to people who are still mourning for the loss. It is a tangible reminder that their loved one existed and will always be a part of their life in some ways.

A Historical Record

Every community has a rich history and the people of belonging to the community are a big part of its story. Cemeteries help preserve the name and identity of a deceased member even years after they are gone. This gives people a sense of continuity and helps preserve their legacy. People of the current generation can look at the graves in the cemetery and find their ancestors.
