A funeral is an organized event, specifically designed to help family members and friends say farewell to their deceased loved one. A clergy member or celebrant is a vital aspect of this event as they offer comfort & guidance. Their presence offers solace and the comfort they offer to grieving family members is invaluable.

If you aren’t very sure about whether you should hire a celebrant or a clergy member, these tips may help. Here we talk about what a clergy member and celebrant can help with.

Clergy Members

Clergy members are generally part of some religious order. They follow the regulations of that order with regard to the funeral rites. If you find spirituality and religion comforting, they are the right choice for you. They conduct funeral services in a specific pattern and are systematic and rigid in their approach. If you or your loved one had religious leanings then having them conduct the service can the best option for you. Their verse recitations and prayers provide solace to those attending the funeral and lend a sense of calm to the event.

Funeral Celebrants

A celebrant doesn’t belong to a specific religious order but they have government authorization to conduct marriages, funerals and other events. They are trained in comforting grieving family members and if you prefer more personalized and special service, then you should consider hiring the services of a celebrant. These professionals can tell you how to plan a unique service befitting your loved one. If you and your family aren’t of a religious mindset and feel that sermons and scripture readings aren’t something you prefer, its best to opt for a celebrant’s services.
