The death of a family member is never easy, and this is especially true during the holiday season. You begin to miss your loved one even more during this festive time because it brings back memories, and you think of all the times that you have spent with them. Somehow, all of the traditions that were part and parcel of the holidays do not seem to matter any longer, and you don't feel enthusiastic about celebrating the festival.

However, you should take this opportunity to create new traditions in honour of your loved one's memory. Here are some of the things that you can do:

  • You can build upon the traditions that you already followed so that it brings some solace to you during the holidays.

  • Consider donating something to a charitable institution. Look for a cause that your loved one supported. The idea is to make a difference in someone else's life and spread cheer during the holiday season.

  • Involve yourself in community service or help those in need.

  • While you may not always feel like participating in festivities, you can meet up with close family and friends and spend some time together. They will also have some stories to share about the time they spent with the person that has passed away.

  • You can take some time out from your schedule to go and meet elderly relatives that maybe feeling neglected around this time.

When you do any of these things, you feel a certain amount of satisfaction that you are doing something new in the memory of your loved one. It can help you cope with your grief in a better way when the whole world around you is rejoicing.
