FRIEND, Frank
Age 90, of Surrey, BC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016, surrounded by family and the loving care of staff at Westminster House where he resided the past seven years.
Frank was born in Vita, Manitoba, to Daniel and Angela (nee Yurkowski) in 1926, then raised in a farming community in rural Saskatchewan. He was a farmer, pipe fitter, skilled cabinet maker, and eventually made his mark as a real estate developer in the Lower Mainland. He even dabbled in politics, serving Port Moody as a member of their Parks Board, president of the Glenayre Community Association, and Alderman from 1976-80. Frank was always busy, very social, and loved spending time with his friends and family. He travelled extensively and enjoyed many activities such as curling, lawn bowling, and bridge.
Frank was predeceased by his first wife of 33 years Yvette (nee Bourassa) in 1992. He is survived by his brother Joe and sister Mary (Slipets); children Gayle (Darrell Staples), Douglas (Frances), and Beverly; grandchildren Kelsey, Leah, Tyler, Justin, Riley, Andre, and Marek. Also survived by his wife of 19 years Shirley (Dawson), stepchildren Ian, Heather, and Sheila, and step-grandchildren Ashtyn and Tate.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Good Shepherd Parish, 2250 – 150th St., Surrey, BC, with a reception to follow immediately after. Visitation and prayers will be offered prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Frank’s memory to the BC Cancer Foundation or charity of your choice.
